Know Thine Enemy
It is important to know yourself. In fact, I previously talked a little about this in “Know Thyself“. Recently, I have been thinking of another adage – “Know Thine Enemy”. I was reminded of it by all of the controversy over Columbia University having invited the president of Iran to speak there.
It has long been known to military strategists that “knowing your enemy” is just as important as knowing yourself. Read more »
Critical Thinking…Understand What Exactly is Being Said
I recently viewed a video on AlterNet featuring George Carlin – “It’s called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it“. I especially applaud his comments on critical thinking. We, in America, seem to have lost most of our critical thinking skills. These skills are not being taught in schools unless you make it to college and sign up for a course.

“God vs the Bible” – Revisited
A previous post of mine, “A Critical Look at The Bible“, received some critical comments. They got me to thinking. I think I have made one of those “dumb” mistakes I am wont to do. I jumped the gun in posting links to “God vs the Bible”. I have a tendency to do a quick perusal of something, form some opinions, get some ideas and then get excited about it. Although I consider all of my opinions to be transitional, it does not come off that way to others when I jump the gun and present them too soon. I should have waited, before posting anything on the book “God vs the Bible”, until I was ready with my own commentary, arguments, etc. Perhaps my purpose would have been clearer.
I warn you all again, I am not a scholar. If you are looking for scholarly debates and dissertations, please look elsewhere. I am merely an ordinary middle-aged woman on a quest. If you are interested in following my thinking, read on.
Here is my (more considered) response to the first commenter. Read more »
A Critical Look at The Bible
In my ongoing search for truth, I came across this website (banner link above). The author has written a book analyzing the disparity between what the Christian Bible says, and what our scientific knowledge tells us about our world and universe. It is available to read online, just click on banner link at the top of this post.
I am not finished reading this book myself, but I thought others might want to check it out for themselves. Although, I do not agree abosulutely with everything the author has to say, I do find he makes a lot of sense. (Edit – Sep 2: I should have said…He makes some good points.) Nothing personal, I rarely agree with absolutely everything someone has to say. I am an eternal skeptic. All in all, a thought provoking book. Read more »
